About Mikey Schaefer
Mikey Schaefer is a photographer, filmmaker and climber with a house in central Oregon, a post office box in Yosemite National Park, and a shack in El Chalten, Argentina. He embraced the climbing life as teenager, moved to Yosemite and eventually began pioneering difficult routes, first in Yosemite and then in the world's out-of-the-way places. His commitment to the vertical life evolved into telling visual stories for the largest brands in the outdoor industry, including; Patagonia, Red Bull, Black Diamond, Mountain Hardwear, Prana, Outdoor Research, 5.10 and La Sportiva. His editorial work has appeared in National Geographic Magazine, Outside Magazine, Men's Journal, Alpinist, Climbing and Rock and Ice. He has done cinematography work for National Geographic TV, 60 Minutes, Fox Searchlight, Duct Tape then Beer and Sender Films. His most recent work includes "Free Solo", which earned an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Schaefer is now also a Primetime Emmy Winner in Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program for his work in Free Solo.
