    About Kalman Szegvary

    Kalman Szegvary is a Toronto-based filmmaker as well as the academic manager of the prestigious entertainment arts college, Trebas Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) degree in Film/TV Production from York University, as well as an MFA in Screenwriting and Film Studies from Hollins University, Virginia. He is also a PhD candidate, at Niagara University, New York, where he is researching the effectiveness of film mentorship during film school practicum. Kalman is best known for directing the cult hit, Cannibal Rollerbabes, a low-budget horror movie that had a worldwide release and is currently available on iTunes. The film generated buzz and attention around the notorious radio host, Howard Stern.

    Kalman has been involved in directing/producing feature films as well as TV shows in both Europe and North America. However, after being invited to lecture about his experiences in the film industry, he began to venture into the academic world. He has since become a recognized professor of film and screenwriting around the world as he has lectured at the Cannes Film Festival as well as Budapest, on screenwriting structure to university students and professionals.

    He has pitched at most of the studios in Hollywood including Amblin Entertainment and has guest lectured at Cannes Film Festival, Profusion, The Movie Expo, the Milton Film Festival and Vistek during TIFF – Toronto International Film Festival. He has also volunteered for many years at the Peel Student Film festival.

    Kalman runs his own production company, Wildfire Motion Picture Company, has recently directed the horror film Ed’s Diner, and is developing the animated TV series, Zombie Dad. He enjoys mentoring his students as they develop their own unique filmmaking style and career path in the film and television industry.

      This presentation will quickly cover the aspects of what good a story and script should contain to make it worthy of production. Kalman will cover aspect of general formatting of your script, the way it should be professionally structured, the importance of creating dramatic conflict in your scenes as well as how to create proper beat sheets.
      He is looking forward to enlightening all storytellers, screenwriters, filmmakers, and digital media creators, learn the tools that will help them tell their own unique stories. This will be a great scriptwriting primer for those that are looking to write their first film, as well as for those that may be consider enrolling in a good film-school program.

      Cult filmmaker Kalman Szegvary, director of the cult hit film, Cannibal Rollerbabes, will screen clips from his films, discuss story writing aspects specific to lower budget film productions, tips on how to put the money on the screen, casting, editing and digital distribution aspects, as well as host a Q & A afterward. This will be a great indie filmmaking primer for those that are looking to make their first cult movie, as well as for those that may be consider enrolling in a good film-school program.
